ATEM Tally Light That Works Over the Internet

ATEM's built-in tally is locked to your local network. Cue Light runs over the internet — talent, camera ops, and remote guests all get the tally signal on their phone, wherever they are.

The ATEM tally gap

Blackmagic's ATEM tally system broadcasts over the local network using the ATEM Tally protocol. It requires dedicated hardware (tally boxes, Blackmagic MultiView) and stops working the moment anyone steps off your WiFi. For in-studio productions that's fine. For any production with off-network participants, it leaves everyone without a tally signal.

How to use Cue Light with your ATEM

Cue Light runs independently — no ATEM connection required. The TD drives both: ATEM for switching, Cue Light for tally signals.

  1. Open Cue Light on the TD's device Go to cuelight.io/app on the same laptop or phone running ATEM Software Control. Room created instantly.
  2. Share with talent and camera operators Tap "Show QR Code" — crew scan with their phones. Or copy the display link and drop it in a group chat before production starts.
  3. Signal alongside ATEM switching When you cut to a camera on ATEM, tap the matching state in Cue Light. Keyboard shortcuts 1 (Live) / 2 (Preview) / 3 (Standby) / 0 (Off) keep pace with switching.
  4. Remote guests get tally too Paste the display link into the Zoom or Teams chat. The guest opens it in a browser tab — their screen goes green when they're live. No plugin, no install.

Compatible ATEM models

Cue Light has no direct connection to the ATEM — it works alongside any model. The TD taps Cue Light when switching on ATEM.

Common ATEM setups where Cue Light fills the gap

Church live production

ATEM Mini in the booth, talent on stage, camera ops around the room — all on one room code.

🎙️

Remote guest interviews

Guest is on Zoom. Paste them the display link. They see their tally on their screen without any hardware.

🎬

Corporate video

Presenter on stage, no tally hardware budget. Cue Light costs nothing and is set up in 30 seconds.

🏟️

Venue events

Don't control the venue WiFi? Cue Light runs over cellular — ATEM tally would be dead in this scenario.

ATEM tally hardware covers your on-network crew. Cue Light covers everyone else — remote guests, multi-site displays, and any phone not on your local network. Many productions run both.

Keyboard shortcuts for fast switching

When your hands are on the ATEM keyboard, use Cue Light shortcuts to keep pace:
