Ross Carbonite switchers support the TSL UMD tally protocol as well as Ross Video's own tally system. This gives camera operators on the studio floor real-time tally via dedicated hardware connected to the local network. For broadcast studio environments where everything is hardwired and on-network, this works well.
Where it falls short
Remote guests on Zoom
TSL and hardware tally are LAN-only. A remote speaker on Zoom has no way to receive a tally signal from Ross Carbonite.
Multi-site broadcast
Remote campus or overflow location not on the studio network. Hardware tally can't reach them.
Mobile crew
Floor managers, producers, and talent waiting off-network who need situational awareness.
Greenroom talent
Waiting talent who need to know when they're on deck — cabling to the greenroom isn't always practical.
